Who we are looking for:

Wunderman Thompson is seeking a Copywriter… a crafter of words and thoughts. Someone who can hold the attention of an audience used to being bombarded with advertising. Someone who is keenly aware of the ellipses in the first sentence of this paragraph and thought, “How pedestrian, they really do need my help.” Someone who might be daring this writer to use an exclamation point. “Go ahead. Do. It. Because if you do, I’m out of here.” And I didn’t. I kept you guessing and now we’re in it. We need you to be playful. The kind of person who is always game for a brainstorm and handy with a quip or a wordplay or maybe an obscure fact about the meaning of ‘obscure.’ Which, was derived from the Latin word ‘obscurus’ meaning ‘dark.’ You must have a facility for precise, fast, powerful writing in various formats (and character counts) as well as a vision and understanding for applying your copy across the multitude of platforms inducing scroll-stopping and thumb-liking.

This position can be remote but may require in person presentations or meetings from time to time.

What you’ll do:

  • Translate | Think conceptually and translate strategic marketing initiatives into informative, concise, and compelling copy solutions. Seek to understand the audience with whom you are communicating.
  • Create | Develop copy that motivates and inspires an audience to lean in and engage. Synthesize information effectively. Demonstrate impeccable writing, spelling and grammar skills through long- and short-form copy. Complete projects on time.
  • Collaborate | Work with creative partners, whether that be art directors, designers, writers, strategists, technologists, or data analysts. Participate in creative meetings and contribute to the development of concepts, creative execution, or offerings. Partner with the account team and creative director (CD) to handle the manner and tone in which the client wants to communicate.

Who you are:

  • Creatively Brave | Eager to create things that nobody has done before. Passionate about the power of creativity with the knowledge to identify and nurture the best ideas. Defend the work that you believe in, while also adapting to solve clients’ challenges.
  • Visionary | Energize and inspire the creative team by communicating a compelling client vision, playing a part in the development of team members.
  • Curious | Continuously re-imagine how to partner with clients to build better futures for their business; pro-actively seek out new opportunities and lateral ideas to solve clients’ biggest business issues.

What you’ll need:

  • Script-writing experience, broadcast or radio.
  • Ability to think conceptually and strategically, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Steadfast belief that every brief is an opportunity to do great work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to become a great presenter of the work.
  • Ability to accept feedback gracefully, or at least while receiving it.
  • Awareness of popular culture: art, music, film, etc., or at the very least be able to fake it.
  • Basic understanding of the production process is a plus.
  • An online portfolio showcasing your best work is required.

We need someone with a passion for writing, who's driven to create iconic branding and messaging. There’s nothing quite like it when a stranger, from out of the ether of the interwebs, falls in love with something you’ve written.
