Major marketers are now pursuing the use of data as a critical strategic value driver – taking ownership of data, moving analytics work out of silos, and making data-driven digital transformation a board-level objective. Wunderman Thompson has significant data talent, but the historic operating model deployed it inconsistently, creating separation between a set of client-facing embedded data teams in agency offices and a separate ‘WT Data’ business, largely with separate clients.

The APAC Chief Data Officer (CDO) will lead efforts to integrate and standardize services across teams and ensure there is a clear value proposition, the business model, and connects data services to our other offerings. There is a unique opportunity to bring form and function to this offering, infuse the power of data in our overall offering, and strengthen WT’s capability to win business across the org through consulting-driven solution design. The objective of this role is to develop the overall data value proposition, define and implement the approach/structure to execute it, and work with practice leads and global leadership to ensure coordination across services and to drive account growth for WT overall.

Scope of Data offer in APAC

  • Strategic consulting to brands on the ownership, management, and use of data for business transformation, communications, customer experience and commerce
  • Research, audience development and source-of-growth modeling leveraging first-, second- and third-party data
  • Development and socialization of insights that can be used to improve strategy, take action and maximize benefits to our clients, including modeling, testing, and optimization.
  • Overall measurement and optimization of marketing effectiveness to drive commercial and outcomes and ROI (offered as WT and as Gain Theory)
  • Analytics and measurement capabilities supporting client marketing programmes and campaigns
  • Definition and capture of data attributes and signals that enable personalization, targeting and segmentation
  • Technology and services that enable customer identification (profiles, behaviors, motivations) and deliver that data to other services
  • Work with local data leads and develop a data community supporting collaboration, capabilities development and innovation.
  • Develop relationships with key local data vendors to create offerings to bring to clients.
  • Manage vendor and tool relationships supporting vendor evaluation, procurement, training, and support.
  • Develop new products/services and create integrated solutions with other WT capabilities


  • Define, develop, and advocate the WT APAC Data offering and GTM strategy
  • With the Global Chief Data Officer, define the standards for our offer and ensure it is consistently understood, presented, and delivered to clients across the region – starting with our offer in marketing science (insight and analytics work)
  • Support client and new business efforts to integrate data capabilities and improve overall offering
  • Review roles and individuals within the org to make sure they are fit for purpose and make adjustments if required.
  • Bring WT’s global vision for data to life for our offices and clients
  • Represent APAC on global data leadership group, serve as conduit for global data capabilities to APAC clients and advocate for APAC needs at the global level
  • Represent Data on Top 30 growth planning
  • Infuse data-driven solutions into new business activities and pitches
  • Understand mechanics of current business operations and how to improve revenue & margin and reduce costs.
  • Work with Finance to agree a mechanism for recognizing contribution of data offer to business without creating new P&Ls, and for removing disincentives to collaboration across existing offices and teams.
  • Support local markets in new business development working on pitches, developing use cases, and developing local market data product offerings.
  • Support local market data solutions and offerings in APAC that fits unique CRM and Media ecosystem and legal environment

Key partnerships

  • Partner with Strategy to ensure data consulting is well represented in Business Transformation offer and engagements
  • Partner with Strategy in APAC to ensure CRM offer has a distinctive and well-defined data-driven approach
  • Partner with technology and CX counterparts to operationalize multi-disciplinary solutions for personalized communications, experiences, and journeys. Need to change the relationship with WT Tech to be one based on partnership and mutual benefit.
  • Partner with counterparts in media teams (within WT and broader WPP) to drive growth of cross channel data-driven solutions for planning and activation
