Who we are
WPP is the global leader in marketing and communications services and one of the world’s largest creative transformation companies.
WPP has created a start-up in the end-to-end Commerce space, Everymile. We are building out a business with a ground-breaking offering that none of our Agency Network competitors have managed to launch into yet.
Within Everymile, we are leveraging WPP’s strength in consumer demand generation, best in class commerce technologies and leading external partnerships to deliver for clients a fully managed commerce service. The service will incorporate the design, build and operation of omni channel digital commerce; everything from website development to supply chain and fulfilment.
Reporting into the CTO, you will grow and manage the team supporting the infrastructure for Everymile’s order management system. You will be applying people management, project management and technical knowledge to achieve the outcomes for the business. You’ll promote a strategy of automating the management of the infrastructure, ensuring reliability and reproducibility are built in. You’ll have a team of like minded experts around you who you’ll work closely with. While you won’t be hands-on day to day, you’re happy to roll up your sleeves to help the team overcome a challenge. You’ll provide a supportive environment for the team to thrive in. You’ll identify and step in to cut through any blockers.
Experience and approach
You’re an approachable supportive manager who has previously been responsible for a team of at least three engineers, and been responsible for hiring new team members. You’ve used infrastructure as code tools to automate the management of servers and other infrastructure. You strive to follow best practices, balancing that with a pragmatic approach where needed. While you understand the importance of technology, you know that building a cohesive, collaborative team is a critical factor to achieving success.
- Growing and line managing the Everymile OMS DevOps/Infrastructure team
- Taking responsibility for the day to day performance, reliability, and availability of the infrastructure
- Supporting team members in continuous professional development
- Continuously review processes for improvement
- Ensuring best practice is adopted and followed
- Working with Development, Architecture, and QA teams
- Fostering inter- and intra-team communication and collaboration
The Everymile OMS is built on an open source stack, based around PHP and MySQL, served by NGinx running on Ubuntu Linux servers. Where possible we’ve automated the server management, initially using Chef and more recently Ansible, and Consul for service location. We use a mix of dedicated servers, virtualised servers, and AWS services. We use Docker, VirtualBox, and Vagrant to create the local development environment, which we intend to consolidate to Docker. We have an ElasticSearch cluster for logging.
At Wunderman Thompson, we are committed to actively building a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace where everyone feels welcomed, valued and heard, and is treated with dignity and respect. As leaders and creative partners across industries, it is our responsibility to cultivate an environment reflective of our greatest asset; our people. We believe that this commitment inspires growth and delivers equitable outcomes for everyone as well as the clients and communities we serve.
