The Strategy Director for Tokyo is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the company and its clients as well as for new business pitches. Working across Wunderman Thompson’s core pillars of brand experience, data and analytics, technology, and commerce. The successful candidate will work across channels, utilizing a varied range of tools to derive key insights that leads to relevant and timely brand communications throughout the entire customer journey to inspire growth for client business.
What you’ll do
- Lead the strategy of some of our biggest clients, and partner with them to unlock their business growth by genuinely understanding their business and their challenges
- Act as a trusted partner to sophisticated, brand-literate clients, assisting them navigating between brand vision and deployment through discussion, presentation, and workshop
- Unearth insights around people and culture, translate the insights into an effective strategy that brings energy and inspiration to the clients’ brands and businesses
- Develop new business opportunities for the network and Tokyo office, both in a leading and supporting role as leader of the wider Transformation Strategy team
- Partner with creatives to make ground-breaking work and give them interesting, unexpected ways to look at creative solutions
- Lead and mentor an integrated strategy team
- Use data, research, and insight to uncover areas of growth or creative firepower, and synthesize all of this into compelling narratives with business rigor
- Drive digital and technological innovation amongst agency and client stakeholders
- Elevate our brand’s reputation among clients and in the industry through thought leadership initiatives
Who you are
- Typically, 10 years of strategy experience that brings with it the ability to solve complex problems, partner with clients and earn their trust
- Superior presentation skills with the ability to persuade and inform, while maintaining agency standards and strategic point-of-view
- Effective leadership and managerial skills. Can both inspire, train and mentor junior staff members in multi-lingual/cultural environments
- Reflects and passionately upholds our agency values and behaviours such as: embraces diversity of people and opinions, clients want to work with them, does the right thing not the easy thing, spreads positivity, prepared to take calculated risks, passion for the work, and never says, ‘that’s not my job’
- Language proficiency: Native level Japanese plus competent to decent level English. Other languages are plus
