This Finance Controller role will be a key player in the Wunderman Thompson Japan team to support the Finance Director, leads the accounting team and work with Shared service center to manage the accounting & control process to deliver accurate financial reporting and ensure robust controls of the agency operation.

What you’ll do

  • Work with Shared Service Center and lead Opco Finance team to manage monthly closing process including review & approve the journal entries and Trial Balance, account reconciliations to ensure accurate accounting.
  • Prepare and upload monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial packs in line with the agreed reporting calendars for both statutory and management reporting. Perform GAAP adjustments and reconciliations between statutory and management accounts.
  • Provide financial analysis and meaningful commentaries on actual variance vs. targets and prior periods.
  • Work with external tax advisor to complete regular tax filings for the agency and handle tax review/audits if any.
  • Design control policy and process based on SOX guidelines and perform regular testing to ensure control effectiveness. Support FD to perform regular risk map and Business continuity plan annual update.
  • Co-ordinate annual statutory audit and internal audits & SOX control reviews. Follow up on any audit adjustments/mitigation actions required.
  • Monitor monthly NWC (Net Working Capital) and work closely with business team to optimize all Balance Sheets item. This include weekly update to global/Regional office.
  • Manage overall cash position and perform rolling cashflow forecast on quarterly basis to regional treasury team.
  • Support Finance Director on any financial analysis request from Management.
  • Provide regular on job coaching and manage performance of direct reports.
  • Monitor the performance of Shared service center and provide constructive feedback to ensure effective co-operation between SSC and WT.
  • Manages a small team of 3 to 4 accountants.

Who you are

  • BS in Accounting or Finance, CPA highly desirable
  • Advertising industry experience is preferred.
  • SOX and internal control experience is a plus.
  • Accounting and control knowledge, attention to details, time & process management, financial analytical skills are essential for this role.
  • Strong computer skills including advanced Excel.
  • Native level Japanese proficiency
  • English proficiency of reading, writing and speaking.
