Who we are:
At Wunderman Thompson we exist to inspire growth for ambitious brands. Part creative agency, part consultancy and part technology company, our experts provide end-to-end capabilities at a global scale to deliver inspiration across the entire brand and customer experience.
We are 20,000 strong in 90 markets around the world; our people bring together creative storytelling, diverse perspectives, inclusive thinking, and highly specialized vertical capabilities to drive growth for our clients. We offer deep expertise across the entire customer journey, including communications, commerce, consultancy, CRM, CX, data, production, and technology.
What we are looking for?
As a Global Planning Director at WT, it is your job to understand what it takes to help a client’s business succeed. We do this through a superior understanding of the business, the brand, the audience and the cultural context, of all combined.
In your role on one of the industry’s most iconic confectionary brands, you will work with a combination of marketing clients, data experts, creatives, experience designers and management consultants from across our fully integrated agency.
You’ll be based in London, but you’ll have a global outlook, helping us to make enviable and consistent work in all four corners of the world.
We’ll expect you to be brilliant at the following:
- Brand strategy and communications. This goes without saying, but you’ll need to know what brilliant looks like and how to inspire local Creatives here and worldwide to make it happen.
- Global perspective. We’re looking for someone who’s had a global role previously, who understands what it takes to identify cultural insights and nuances and can steer work in individual markets as well as multi-market.
- Presenting your thinking to impress the most senior of clients and inspire the day-to-day teams. We need someone who impresses from the first meeting, who can sell creative work as well as smart strategy and keeps things super-simple yet deviously disruptive.
- A broad understanding of and affinity for the full mix of media channels, from Social to Digital to Advertising and an ambition to imbue a brand with a sense of purpose and pursuit of some ambitious sustainability goals.
- The ability to manage a small team of Planners, with the capability to guide a broader set of Planners and Creatives worldwide.
What you’ll be doing
- 80% of your time will be running the Global strategy for an iconic confectionary brand, producing work directly from the London ‘centre’ and guiding work from around the world in individual markets.
- You’ll embrace multiple channels, multiple audiences and multiple markets but ensure the brand remains clear on its purpose, is highly distinctive and always consistent.
- You will be directly helping to create some of the best work of your career.
- As for the other 20% - let’s chat and see what you fancy getting involved with.
Who we're looking for
First off, the technical stuff:
- Currently a well put-together Planning Director
- Experienced in creating and crafting brand and business strategies, leading teams, inspiring Clients and Creatives alike and showing that you’ve been responsible for some great work
- An integrated thinker, able to work across multiple channels with a broad and open mind
- Global experience where you’ve led the thinking and the team
- The craft skills, the models, the know-how that comes from having a few years under your belt
Now the softer, but just as important stuff
- An ambitious, curious, brave and modern human
- Naturally, intuitively, decidedly collaborative, who gets along with everyone, not just the occasional one
- Great presentation skills (obviously) that can knock the socks off any audience anywhere
- Someone who enjoys a good debate and is skilled at crafting a winning argument
- A degree of some sort will help us understand your background and point of view
- Someone who believe it’s more important to be interesting that to be right
- A sense of humour, a sense of perspective and the emotional intelligence to not be annoying, a blocker, arrogant or just a plain pain in the arse!
What we can offer you
This is a chance to not just make ads, or apps, or any of the myriad things we make here at WT. This is a chance to make a real, tangible difference. Because our ideas don’t just live in silos, or on screens, they shape entire brands. They change the fate of categories. And they make our planners famous.
That being said, please don’t apply for this role if you’re satisfied with just getting a job done. We are looking for someone that is brave, mischievous, and has the energy to go beyond the brief.
If you do join us, we will make sure that you are comfortable, happy, and inspired by working at WT. We don’t want you to just fit into our culture, we want your unique point of view to shape the future of our agency.
We want you to be comfortable and proud every day of the week and have created an open and inclusive environment where you can bring your whole self to work. We don’t want you to just fit into our culture, we want your uniqueness and diversity of background to add to it and make this an agency where we all have a real sense of belonging and purpose. We are a community.
Our focus is on keeping teams connected and engaged whether we're in the office or working from home, putting people’s wellbeing first, ensuring every person has access to our learning and development programme and building an inclusive workplace. We have a weekly ‘Staying Connected Calendar’ which is full to the brim of training you can get involved in, inspiration sessions hosted by external partners to check out and wellbeing classes and tips and tricks to look after your mind, body and soul. From yoga, Pilates, HIIT, hypnotherapy, a Strava cycling group, 1:1 resilience sessions and trained mental health first aiders. To name a few. Within our office we have a dedicated wellness studio and this year we built a brand new learning lab. Here we host weekly lunchtime lessons that supports iLearn, our learning & development portal home to 100s of sessions for you to access. We're also committed to building an inclusive, equitable and diverse workforce driven by our Inclusion Council and Employee Resource Groups; Rise, Unite, Re:think, Noir, Wellbeing and Access all Areas.
Your career development is important to us and should you ever choose to move on from Wunderman Thompson, we want you to be better than when you joined us. Thrive will provide you with the framework and support needed to reach your career aspirations. There really is no shortage of opportunities here for the right person that is prepared to roll their sleeves up, get involved and collaborate with those around them to deliver the best work for our clients and our agency.
At Wunderman Thompson, we are committed to actively building a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace where everyone feels welcomed, valued and heard, and is treated with dignity and respect. As leaders and creative partners across industries, it is our responsibility to cultivate an environment reflective of our greatest asset; our people. We believe that this commitment inspires growth and delivers equitable outcomes for everyone as well as the clients and communities we serve.
