Speaking to BBC News presenter Victoria Fritz, Frank Kochenash, President, Marketplace Services at Wunderman Thompson Commerce USA, discussed Amazon's blockbuster Q1 results. Amazon saw net sales surge 44 percent year on year, with net income rocketing to $8.1 billion for the three month period, more than three times the amount in Q1 2020, confirming that online shopping was paramount during the pandemic.
Andy Jassy, the next CEO of Amazon was discussed, with Frank confirming that he would be a suitable successor to Jeff Bezos, who will continue to provide a supporting influencer as chair.
Moving on, Frank and Victoria then went on to discuss AWS which has become a $54 billion annual sales run rate business competing against the world’s largest technology companies, with growth accelerating—up 32% year over year.
Lastly, discussing what Amazon may look like in 10 years time. Frank focussed on how Amazon will continue to be 100% customer-centric, how they always strive to understand what customers want and need and look to invent ways to satisfy those needs. Frank said: The mantra for Amazon has always been, what's the customer problem and need, and how can we solve it."
