As online shopping habits advance and consumers come to expect a seamless experience, retailers and distribution services alike are looking to eliminate pain points from the delivery process.

Walmart

Hoping to relieve any consumer anxiety about packages left on the porch, Walmart is expanding their Walmart Plus InHome program. Launched in September, Walmart has partnered with Chamberlain’s myQ smart garage door opener system to allow delivery drivers to place orders directly in customers’ garages.

Amazon

Proving the power of technology to optimize delivery logistics, Amazon is deploying their CONDOR or Customer Order and Network Density Optimizer to the entire US this year. Through CONDOR orders are assessed at the fulfilment center to determine the most effective shipping method with Amazon claiming that millions of delivery miles will be saved as the program rolls out throughout the country.

Nuro

Autonomous vehicle start-up Nuro is now partnering with Uber Eats to test unmanned food delivery in selected US cities, kicking off a 10-year partnership. While Nuro will receive a portion of every delivery fee, customers will not be charged any extra if a bot or human delivers their food and may even save a little as the bots can’t accept tips.

GoTo

In Indonesia, GoTo, one of the rising super apps from the APAC market, launched their food delivery service in August 2022. Named GoFood, the integration into the app will allow customers to seamlessly order their food delivered while merchants will have access to a new and engaged customer base.

DoorDash

DoorDash, the US-based food delivery platform, is launching their new feature Drinks with DoubleDash in October this year, an expansion on their DoubleDash feature that allows multi-vendor ordering. The new option will allow customers to place a single order which includes food from one vendor and drinks or alcohol from another without any extra fees or order minimum requirements.

Not only are these new systems creating a more seamless delivery experience, many are also looking to added advantages like cost-savings and safety as ways to appeal to an ever more demanding audience.
