Down syndrome has existed since at least the fifth century. However, the actual numbers of people across the world with Down syndrome remained unknown.
Given the lack of official data, Down syndrome is often overlooked by governments, hindering solutions to help people and stifling public policy that ensures their rights.
“I am living in a time where disabled people are more visible than ever before. And yet while representation is exciting and important, it is not enough. I want and expect more. We all should expect more. We all deserve more,” said Alice Wong, Author of Disability Visibility.
‘Numbers Syndrome’ is the first dynamic tool in the world that shows the number of people with Down syndrome and the data they generate to raise awareness of their needs.
The tool collects and compares submitted data, turning each new piece of data into statistics and each statistic into a real-time claim aimed at the government agencies in charge of solving it.

For the first time in Argentine history, the state acknowledged the number of people with Down syndrome by making data official and establishing real public policies that safeguard the rights of this population in all areas of their lives.
The Argentine Legislature declared our campaign in the public interest and our tool an ally for the development of the Down syndrome population.
With this campaign, we began a conversation that led to action.
