Challenge

Habitat’s digital presence was being outpaced by its competitors. With online representing an increasingly significant share of total revenues, the company recognised the need to upgrade its existing commerce platform to deliver the speed, flexibility and choice their customers expected, and to establish Habitat as a truly multichannel business.

In commissioning WT Commerce to lead the project, Habitat challenged is to create a contemporary, inspirational online experience defined by style and visual appeal that reflected the values of the brand.

Inspiration

Innovative, disruptive, fearlessly contemporary - Habitat’s status as one of the most iconic brands on the UK high street is founded on its unwavering commitment to style. For more than 50 years. It has pioneered designs that have helped to transform consumer tastes in home decor. For us, this presented a uniquely inspiring challenge - how to create a contemporary online experience that captured the identity of a brand so steeped in visual appeal.

Solution

The first phase of the project focused on migrating Habitat’s commerce platform to Magento Enterprise Edition. We engaged with the company’s in-house creative team to develop a refined yet beautifully simple mobile-first UI, as research showed that over 60% of Habitat's sales originate online with shoppers using smartphones and tablets.

In designing the new site, we prioritised easier navigation, responsive design, multi-device image browsing, an easier checkout process, an enhanced search function and rich editorial content.

Phase two saw the introduction of a click and collect service as Habitat continued to evolve its digital offer to meet customers’ demands. Customers can now pick up small homeware products ordered online the next day, from more than 2,300 locations, including their own stores, Sainsbury's branches and DPD sites across the UK.

WT Commerce has also provided ongoing support with platform management, including during peak periods, along with analytics and BI to inform product and testing roadmaps.

Growth

The re-platform resulted in strong year-on-year uplifts in conversion rates and revenue, with highly positive customer feedback and a much greater level of control over the digital experience.

WT Commerce was selected due to their extensive re-platform experience, offering a 360 team approach. We’ve already received very positive feedback from customers about their online experience with us on the new site and conversion figures show the new platform is making it much easier to shop with us online.
