When listening to an audio book, the narrator determines the story’s point of view, and the most accurate narration will be from the author. Unfortunately, many of history’s greatest authors are no longer with us, making this impossible – until now. "Audio by Authors" from Wunderman Thompson Hong Kong for Penguin Audiobooks uses AI to recreate narrations from the voice of an audio file and recreate them in any language. The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway? With Audio by Authors, readers can experience firsthand how Hemingway would have told his story using audio of Hemingway's actual voice.

To engage the next generation of readers, how could writing greats of the past connect with new audiences around the world?
Sales Director, Penguin Random House North Asia
For almost 100 years, Penguin Books has connected readers with the world’s greatest authors. With so many present day authors making use of book tours, interviews and live readings to tell their stories to engage the next generation of readers, how could writing greats of the past connect with new audiences around the world?
By using voice samples collected from interviews and speeches by the world’s greatest authors, we created a library of each author’s voice. With the help of advanced AI, we analyzed each author’s unique speech patterns, characteristics and tone, which enabled us to recreate their voice and bring their stories to life and told in their own words. Not only that, AI made it possible for us to determine how the author would have spoken in different languages, opening up these great works to global audiences.
To relaunch the greats, we partnered with educational institutions to help teachers bring these authors to life in their classes and took the greats on their own tours with live book readings.
